Historic Durango, Colorado is a thriving community in the beautiful Animas River Valley. This town of about 19,000 residents is nestled between the La Plata and San Juan Mountains to the north and the vast deserts of the Southwest to the south. Durango boasts and average of 300 sunny days per year and is renowned for its outdoor recreation opportunities, breathtaking scenery, and friendly people.
The Fort Lewis College campus sits atop a beautiful mesa overlooking Durango in the valley below. If you’re feeling up for it, you can even walk from town to campus via the Sky Steps (529 steps in total!) or the half-mile Nature Trail. Not up for it? Don’t worry, you can dive up to campus. Just use your phone or other device to navigate to “1000 Rim Drive” or use this link to be redirected to a map. While you’re on campus, join us for one of our many events (check out the events calendar).
If you are from out-of-town and you want to make the most of your visit, please stop by the Durango Welcome Center at the corner of Main Ave. and 8th St. in downtown Durango.
