For many art students, a college degree is the first step toward establishing a career as a designer. But why wait until then to gain real-world professional experience? Assistant Professor of Art Shawn Meek believes a student’s career can get off the ground during college.
“You need to get your work out there so you have a foundation,” Meek says. “Get published while you’re in school. Get some awards. Get noticed.”

College Values Online looked at nearly 150 programs from colleges and universities across the country.
In 1999 a team established a program, put a school on the map, and captivated a town. The 1999 Fort Lewis College men's soccer team did all that in a magical season that saw them get as close to hoisting a national championship trophy as you can get without actually getting to touch it.
Despite falling short of their highest goal, from that season emerged a Skyhawks men's soccer program that has since forged and fielded teams that have won NCAA Division II National Championship titles in 2005, 2009, and 2011.
Fort Lewis College will celebrate the career of legendary basketball coach, Bob Hofman, on February 12 by naming the court in Whalen Gymnasium in his honor. FLC will recognize his accomplishments during a ceremony prior to the men’s basketball game vs. Western State Colorado University, which begins at 7:30 p.m.
