About Dr. Kenny Miller

Kenny Miller is the chair and an associate professor of Chemistry at Fort Lewis College. He joined the college in 2009. Dr. Miller’s research interests include synthetic organic chemistry with an emphasis on the laboratory preparation of biologically active natural products with potential to treat viral infections and cancer. His research group synthesized the antiviral compounds sattabacin and sattazolin. His work has been published in the Journal of Chemical Education, Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, and Tetrahedron Letters, among other journals. He is a reviewer for various research journals, including Organic Letters, Tetrahedron Letters, Synthetic Communications and European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. Prior to joining Fort Lewis, Dr. Miller was a postdoctoral fellow at Colorado State University, studying the biosynthetic origin of several related indole alkaloids.

Dr. Miller is the 2014-2015 recipient of the Fort Lewis College Alice Admire Outstanding Teaching Award. He is passionate about using innovative teaching methods in the classroom and has created a YouTube channel for his organic chemistry lectures, which have been viewed in excess of 45,000 times. Dr. Miller is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Council on Undergraduate Research and the Society for Advancing Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in Science.
