Old Mountains, New Perspective

Like any child who is spoiled with the beauty of Colorado, it was not until at least high school that I realized that I live in one of the most beautiful states in the country. Some of my favorite memories of freshman year at Fort Lewis were exploring the trails around the school as well as driving to nearby towns like Silverton and Telluride. I knew at this point that I was a mountain girl, through and through.

What I've learned, part 2

“Sometimes you have to play with fire to find out how to not get burned.” This a quote I’ve come to find very realistic while in college. When you are away from old friends or family and on your own to make decisions, it can sometimes be hard to get things right on your first try.  In the residence halls, you have to do your own laundry. I remember seeing lot of trial and error there: someone using dish soap in the washing machine, or someone thinking that turning it on made the machine release its own soap.

Cabin fever?

When you ask most people what they think of when referring to winters in Durango, probably 80% of the answers you get are skiing and snowboarding related.  While these are a couple of the great things our area has to offer, I personally come nowhere close to being able to afford it.  Of course I’m not trying to discourage anyone from getting a pass and going skiing every day (without missing class obviously), I’m just suggesting some possible alternatives that I have discovered since starting at Fort Lewis.
