Cinco de Mayo in Durango will be held at Gazpacho’s Restaurant this year, and El Centro de Muchos Colores will benefit from the margarita and zumbathon fundraisers. Events take place noon-6 p.m. Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4, and from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, May 5 at the Gazpacho’s parking lot located on east 2nd Avenue in downtown Durango.
A portion of the El Centro margarita sales from all weekend will go toward the El Centro book scholarship and all proceeds from the Zumbathon will support the Ballet Folklorico dance group’s efforts to attend a national dance conference this summer.
Friday and Saturday events include a health fair with San Juan Basin Health Department from noon-4 p.m., along with authentic Mexican vendor booths, and a Fort Lewis College information table from noon-6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Ballet Folklorico de Fort Lewis College will perform traditional Mexican Folklorico dancing at 5 p.m. both Friday and Saturday evenings. On Sunday, May 5 from 1-3 p.m., there will be a zumbathon with a suggested $10 donation to participate.
