Ballet Folklorico de Durango is a K-20 Cultural Arts Dance Program

Ballet Folklorico de Durango is a program of El Centro de Muchos Colores Hispano Resource Center. Based at Fort Lewis College, El Centro offers the dance space for this cultural arts program to thrive as a tool to promote pride in Hispanic culture as well as assist with recruitment and retention of multicultural students grades k-20.

The dance group welcomes students ages 5 and up to join in weekly dance practices and occasional performances. Ballet Folkorico de Durango embraces Hispanic culture through dancing traditional Mexican Folklore. We provide opportunities for students to learn how to dance and perform these traditional dances both on and off campus.

Mentorship and leadership opportunities exist for Fort Lewis College students to travel around the United States for performances as well as to attend the annual professional Folklorico dance conference where mentors learn different styles of Folkloric dancing from different regions of Mexico. Any student or community member can join regardless of ethnicity, language, or dance abilities.
