The Writing Center

The purpose of the Writing Center is to give you a place where you can get one-on-one help with any writing assignment or project.  You can visit us at any point in your writing process: from generating ideas, to establishing an organizational structure, to polishing a final draft.  Our goal is to collaborate with you as you develop new skills and to support you in becoming a confident, independent writer.

Scholarships

We offer a variety of scholarships for our students. These scholarships range from $100 to $1000. The deadline for all scholarships is February 1st unless otherwise noted in the criteria. Our current scholarships include, but are not limited to:

Internships

The English Department offers a number of internships which give credit for directed experience in the work place. For example, students might work on the Durango Independent Film Festival (DIFF), one of many local newspapers.

Clubs & Organizations

Images Magazine: Images is a literary arts organization, trying to promote creative events within the college and local communities. Images is a forum for creativity which gives students an outlet to publish works of literature and art. It is a nonprofit, student-operated and -funded organization.

Independent Newspaper: The Indy Online is an extension of The Independent News Magazine at Fort Lewis College.  The Independent is a student-run publication covering news, entertainment, sports and any other happenings around the local area.

KDUR Radio: KDUR, volunteer-powered community radio, creates a bridge between Fort Lewis College and La Plata County, offering diverse music, alternative news, and local public affairs programming. KDUR provides educational and training opportunities in a professional setting for Fort Lewis College students and community members.

Sigma Tau Delta: Sigma Tau Delta's central purpose is to confer distinction upon students of the English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies. Sigma Tau Delta also recognizes the accomplishments of professional writers who have contributed to the fields of language and literature.
