Introduction/ Scope and contents

These are color slide transparencies of views photographed by Gayle Maloy in the Southwest, especially in Colorado, Utah, and Nevada, with an emphasis on Monument Valley and Arches.  Dimensions approximately 2.75” square.  The total quantity is 677 color slide transparency photographs (including 362 glass transparencies) in two document cases.  Undated and basically unidentified.

Caution:  Box 1 contains glass slides.  Both boxes, though small, are heavy.  The user must be very careful that no slides slip out of their protective storage sleeve compartments and that no slides are dropped.

Administrative information

Arrangement note: The Center retained the creator's original order of these slides, which is basically chronological.

Acquisition information: This slide collection was donated to the Center of Southwest Studies by Alternative Horizons Corp. (to whom Mr. Maloy willed his estate) by deed of gift signed on 10/4/2005 by Alternative Horizons; its accession number is 2005:10003.2.

Processing information: The Center immediately re-housed all of the slides in inert plastic sleeves and white folders (they were in acidic cardboard boxes when the Center received them).  The Center's student archival assistant Andrew Hayes did that work, and produced the folder-level inventory in November of 2005.  This guide was produced by Hayes and Todd Ellison, Certified Archivist, Center of Southwest Studies, in November-December of  2005.

The Center has not yet digitized any of these transparencies, but can do that upon request.  The Center's scanning station includes a Super Coolscan 4000 high-resolution slide scanner.  Please see the image duplication request form and instructions for requesting digital images, at http://swcenter.fortlewis.edu/Info_researchers/sw-4.htm
