Fort Lewis College Scholarships

Institutional Scholarships for Undergraduates

Overview

Fort Lewis College awards three types of renewable scholarships to assist undergraduate students with financing their college education.

  • Merit scholarships are awarded at the time of admission by the Office of Admission. The Office of Financial Aid automatically renews these scholarships if the renewal criteria have been met.  
  • Opportunity scholarships are awarded at the time of admission by the Office of Admission and the Office of Financial Aid. The Office of Financial Aid automatically renews these scholarships if the renewal criteria have been met.
  • Performance scholarships are awarded after the student begins attendance at Fort Lewis College by the program coordinator.  They are renewed by the program coordinator and the Office of Financial Aid. 

The terms and conditions published for the initial award year will be unchanged for the duration of the scholarship award. These are listed below for each institutional scholarship.

Terms and Conditions for Initial Award in 2017-18

draft FIRST GENERATION SCHOLARSHIP

Summary

Minimum Eligibility:  Student is admitted as a first-time freshman for Augmester or Fall; has completed all requirements of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); is a Colorado resident for tuition classification purposes; reported on the FAFSA that neither parent (birth or adoptive) has an earned baccalaureate degree or higher.  Because there is a limited number of these awards, meeting minimum eligibility standards does not result in automatic award.

Restricted To:  Educational expenses.

Annual Award Amount:  $2,000.

Disbursement Amount:  50% of annual award in the Fall semester and 50% of annual award in the Spring semester.

Disbursement Requirement:  Enrollment in a minimum of 12 credits by Census Date.

GPA and Credit Completion Renewal Criteria:  Minimum of 2.00 cumulative GPA; minimum of 30 credits completed at Fort Lewis College in Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters, except for initial award year, in which case minimum of 24 completed will be allowed.

Award Length:  Renewable up to 120 earned credits or eight consecutive Fall and Spring semesters, whichever comes first.

draft FRESHMAN FINISH IN FOUR TUITION MERIT SCHOLARSHIP

Summary

Minimum Eligibility:  Student applied for admission by June 1 (for initial award in Fall) and October 1 (for initial award in Spring); was admitted as a first-time freshman for an Augmester, Fall or Spring semester; confirmed enrollment by July 15 (for initial awards in Fall) and December 1 (for initial awards in Spring); has English and Math scores that qualify for college-level placement; has a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.00; and has a minimum ACT composite score of 20 or a minimum SAT combined score of 890 (scoring system prior to March 2016) or 970 (scoring system after March 2016).

Restricted To:  Fort Lewis College tuition expenses.

Annual Award Amount:  $2,000-$10,000, depending on tuition classification and academic credentials.

Disbursement Amount:  50% of annual award in the Fall semester and 50% of annual award in the Spring semester.

Disbursement Requirement:  Enrollment in a minimum of 12 credits by Census Date. 

Renewal Criteria After Initial Award Year:  Student receiving the scholarship in the Fall and Spring semesters must 1) have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours by the end of the Summer semester of the initial award year with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 and a student receiving the scholarship only in Spring semester must have completed a minimum of 12 credits by the end of the Summer semester of the initial award year with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00; 2) must have declared a major by the end of the Spring semester; and 3) must have developed a four-year degree plan as instructed. 

Renewal Criteria After Second Award Year:  Student must have completed a minimum of  30 credits during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters of the second award year; have a minimum 2.00 cumulative grade point average; and must have updated their degree plan as instructed.

Renewal Criteria After Third Award Year:  Student must have completed a minimum of 30 credits during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters of the third year; have a minimum 2.00 cumulative grade point average; and must have updated their degree plan as instructed.

Award Length:  Renewable up to 120 earned credits or eight consecutive Fall and Spring semesters, whichever comes first.

draft FRESHMAN NEW MEXICO RECIPROCAL TUITION MERIT SCHOLARSHIP

Summary

Minimum Eligibility:  Student is a permanent resident of New Mexico; applied for admission by June 1 (for initial award for Fall) and by October 1 (for initial award for Spring); was admitted as a first-time freshman for an Augmester, Fall or Spring semester; confirmed enrollment by July 15 (for initial award in Fall) and by December 1 (for initial award in Spring); has English and Math scores that qualify for college-level placement; has a cumulative high school GPA of 3.20 or higher and an ACT composite score of 25 or higher or an SAT combined score of 1110 or higher (scoring system prior to March 2016) or 1180 or higher (scoring system beginning March 2016). Because there is a limited number of these awards, meeting minimum eligibility standards does not result in automatic award.

Restricted To:  Fort Lewis College tuition expenses.

Annual Award Amount:  Difference between non-resident and resident tuition costs.

Disbursement Amount:  50% of annual award in the Fall semester and 50% of annual award in the Spring semester.

Disbursement Requirement:  Enrollment in a minimum of 12 credits by Census Date.

draft SOPHOMORE ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP

Summary

Minimum Eligibility:  Student was admitted as a first-time freshman in Fall 2016 and was not awarded the Freshman New Mexico Reciprocal Tuition Merit Scholarship or the Freshman Tuition Merit Scholarship; completed a minimum of 24 college-level credits by end of Spring 2017 semester; is college-level in English and Math; has minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00.

Restricted To:  Fort Lewis College tuition expenses. 

Annual Award Amount:  $2,000-$4,000, depending on tuition classification.

Disbursement Amount:  50% of annual award in the Fall semester and 50%  of annual award in the Spring semester.

Disbursement Requirement:  Enrollment in a minimum of 12 credits by Census Date.

Renewal Criteria After Initial Award Year:  Student must have 1) completed a minimum of 30 credits during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters of the initial award year; 2) have a minimum 2.00 cumulative grade point average; and 3) must have developed a degree plan as instructed.

ACHIEVERS TUITION SCHOLARSHIP

Summary

  • Minimum Eligibility:  Student is admitted as a first-time freshman in the Fall semester, has a CCHE Admission Index of 95 or higher, and is college-level in English and mathematics.  Because there is a limited number of these awards, meeting minimum eligibility standards does not result in automatic award.
  • Restricted To: Fort Lewis College tuition expenses.    
  • Annual Award Amount:  $3,000-$11,500, depending on tuition classification and CCHE Admission Index.
  • Disbursement Amount:  50% of annual award in the Fall semester and 50% of annual award in the Spring semester.
  • Disbursement Requirement:  Enrollment in 12 or more credits by Census Date.
  • GPA  and Credit Completion Renewal Criteria: Minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA, except for initial award year, in which case a minimum 2.00 Spring term GPA will be allowed; minimum of 30 credits completed at Fort Lewis College in Fall, Spring and Summer semesters, except for initial award year, in which case minimum of 24 completed credits will be allowed.

  • Minimum Eligibility:  Student is admitted as a first-time freshman in the Fall or Spring semester, has a CCHE Admission Index of 100 or higher, is a permanent resident of New Mexico, and is college-level in English and mathematics OR student is admitted as a transfer student in the Fall or Spring semester, has a cumulative college GPA of 3.00 or higher, has not previously earned a baccalaureate degree from Fort Lewis College or a previous institution, is a permanent resident of New Mexico, and is college-level in English and mathematics.  Because there is a limited number of these awards, meeting minimum eligibility standards does not result in automatic award.
  • Restricted To:  Fort Lewis College tuition expenses.
  • Annual Award Amount:  $10,216.
  • Disbursement Amount:  50% of annual award in Fall semester and 50% of annual award in Spring semester.
  • Disbursement Requirement:  Enrollment in 12 or more credits by Census Date.

OTTENS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Summary

  • Annual Award Amount:  $500-$5000, depending on tuition classification and potential to graduate from Fort Lewis College.
  • Disbursement Requirement: Enrollment in 12 or more credits by Census Date.
  • Renewal Criteria:  2.5 cumulative grade point average and completion of 24 credits each academic year.
  • Award Length:  120 earned credits.

New Mexico Reciprocal Tuition Scholarship

  • Eligibility: Student is admitted as a first-time freshman or a transfer student in Fall or Spring semester with a permanent residence in New Mexico, with priority given to San Juan County residents. Freshmen must have a CCHE Admission Index of 110 or higher.  Transfer students must have a cumulative college grade point average at previously attended institutions of 3.5 or higher.
  • Annual Award Amount:  In-state tuition rate.
  • Disbursement Requirement: Enrollment in 12 or more credits by Census Date.
  • Renewal Criteria: 2.5 cumulative grade point average and completion of 24 credits each academic year.
  • Award Length:  Four years.
