Dear Skyhawks,
Like you, I woke up to the harrowing news of the mass shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs. It is particularly brutal news to stomach on Transgender Day of Remembrance. On a day when we remember those we’ve lost to anti-transgender violence, we also bear witness to more extreme violence and grieve the lives lost in Colorado Springs last night. Every member of the LGBTQIA2S+ community deserves to live a life of dignity free from violence and hatred. Now, more than ever, we must stand up against this type of hate. Please know that FLC will continue to work to create a safe environment and support the LGBTQIA2S+ community. Counseling services are available on campus for anyone needing support, and state resources are just a call or text away.
FLC Counseling Center: A full range of individual and group counseling services are available on campus in Noble Hall, upstairs in Room 260, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-5 p.m. Call 970-247-7212 or email counselingcenter@fortlewis.edu.
Colorado Crisis Services: This statewide behavioral health crisis response system offers residents mental health, substance use, or emotional crisis help, information, and referrals. Free and confidential support is available via phone and text 24/7/365. Call 844-493-8255 or text “TALK” to 38255.
This is a difficult day. Take care of each other and lean into your FLC community for support.
