Associate Vice President of Diversity Affairs

September 14, 2020

Dear FLC,

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central aspects of our strategic plan and a major focus for our Board of Trustees. It is important to ensure that the key drivers of the work have the positional authority and institutional backing to execute upon the work. Given this, I decided to conduct an internal search for an Associate Vice President of Diversity Affairs. For a college that promotes and respects diversity, it is apropos to have a senior level diversity officer. This position better reflects our mission to serve our diverse student body.

It's my honor to announce that Dr. LeManuel "Lee" Bitsóí has accepted the position for Associate Vice President of Diversity Affairs. Our campus has come to know Lee as an effective leader in his role as the Diversity Collaborative Director. He’s been instrumental in building relationships across campus to integrate and embed diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in all that we do at FLC. In his new position, Lee will continue to help FLC elevate the status of DEI work in our community and signal to our entire community the importance of diversity.

The Diversity Collaborative Director position will not be filled and no new staff (beyond what has been budgeted) will be added beyond the AVP for Diversity Affairs. It was important to me to have a resource neutral hire during these times. Lee will continue to as serve as Special Advisor to the President for Indigenous Affairs, as well as collaborate with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs regarding diversity related issues.

Please join me in congratulating Lee.

Best, Tom
