Grant awards from January to June 2019
Ruth Alminas, assistant professor of Political Science, received $1,138 from the Pi Sigma Alpha National Honor Society to fund the “2018 Pi Sigma Alpha Speaker.”
Callie Cole, assistant professor of Chemistry, received $20,000 from American Society of Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) upon being awarded the “ASMS Research at PUIs Award for 2018.”
Callie Cole, assistant professor of Chemistry, received $10,000 from the Society of Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP) for “2019 SACP Undergraduate Analytical Research Program.”
Paul DeBell, assistant professor of Political Science, and Ellen Paul, associate professor of History, received $2,500 from the Ohio State University, Title IV CEES program, for “Ohio State University CSEES Title VI Grant SP 2019” to bring a series of film discussions and two guest speakers to campus to strengthen the study of Russian and East European history and politics at FLC.
Steve Elias, dean of School of Business Administration, and Tino Sonora, professor of Business Administration, received $35,750 from the Colorado Water Conservation Board for “Assessing the Impacts of Drought on Ecosystem Service-based Sectors in Southern Colorado.”
Crystal Fankhouser, associate director of Financial Aid, received $15,000 from the Boettcher Foundation to fund five Boettcher Opportunity Award scholarships in 2019-2020.
Peggy Ferguson, director of Campbell Child and Family Center, received $38,500 from the Temple Hoyne Buell Foundation for tuition support for families with financial need and to offer the Incredible Years parenting class in 2020.
Kendra Gallegos Reichle, coordinator of Student Wellness, received $1,500 from La Plata Electric Association for “Suicide Prevention” to implement a suicide intervention training program on campus.
Beth LaShell, coordinator of Old Fort at Hesperus, received $24,794 from the Colorado State Historical Fund to develop “Construction Documents for Old Fort at Hesperus Carriage House and Root Cellar” over a two-year period.
Beth LaShell, coordinator of Old Fort at Hesperus, received $1,000 from the Ballantine Family Fund for the “2019 Farmer in Training” project to support one farmer in training for the 2019 growing season.
Stacey Peters, administrative assistant for Reed Library, received $250 from the American Library Association to be a host site for the traveling exhibition “Native Voices: Native Peoples' Concepts of Health and Illness.”
Eric Prosser, campus copyright librarian, and Astrid Oliver, collection management librarian for Reed Library, received $42,000 from the Colorado Department of Higher Education Open Educational Resources (OER) to fund “Putting Students at the Center through OER.”
Elizabeth Quinn MacMillan, curator of Museum Collections for Center of Southwest Studies, received $2,500 from the Ballantine Family Foundation to fund “Emergency Response Training and Preservation Assessments for the Four Corners Museum Network.”
Mary Shepherd, deputy director of Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center, received $83,000 from the Colorado Department of Economic Development and International Trade (COEDIT) to fund SBDC activities in 2019 and $3,100 to fund “SBDC For the Health of It.”
