AUDIO TRANSCRIPT:

What drew me to Fort Lewis College was the location of the school and the sense of community I felt here. The beautiful location of the campus left me awe-struck, being able to see all of Durango from the edge of the Rim trail was nothing I had seen before. Going to FLC has helped me connect with nature in a way I never expected with opportunities like hiking the Highland Mary Lakes Trail with P.E.A.K. before classes started my freshman year

I was able to experience many other things at the FLC, like kayaking the river, learning to ski, and so much more.  I was interested in coming to FLC to try these new things outdoors, and the accessibility of OP hooked absolutely hooked me. It’s been everything I thought it’d be. I’ve been able to have so many titillating new experiences, and am excited to spend the semester after next abroad.

My favorite time on campus was the Undergraduate Research I participated in this summer. I spent three days every week with Justin McBrayer, a professor of Philosophy. In that 3 week period, we read 4 novels and 6 articles about the field of cognitive science and what it shows us about religious institutions and practices.

We would spend our mornings in a Noble classroom before enjoying the warmer afternoon weather outside in one of the clusters of chairs scattered around campus, and occasionally settling in at the Peace Park to talk about how religious institutions and fraternities are, undeniably, similar. It was a great period of enlightening discussions and coming to new conclusions, as well as building relationships with other leaders of the Philosophy Club.

My name is Emily Bennett, and I am a junior studying philosophy and president of the Philosophy Club RSO.
