Dolph Kuss Weekend of Celebration

Come honor and visit with Outdoor Pursuits co-founder and Professor Emeritus of Exercise Science Dolph Kuss as part of Outdoor Pursuits’ 40th anniversary.

Dolph Kuss is an FLC and Durango legend. He was a Nordic ski coach for the U.S. Ski Team from 1963 through 1972, including the 1964 Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria, and the 1972 Olympics in Sapporo, Japan. He helped develop both Chapman Hill and Purgatory Ski Area. As FLC’s men’s ski coach from 1965 – 76, his skiers earned several NCAA championships and All-America honors, and he organized the 1975 NCAA Championships, held at Purgatory. Kuss also was instrumental in launching FLC’s Outdoor Pursuits program in 1977 as a way to outfit student adventures while providing expertise for guided adventures in the region. He was inducted into the Colorado Ski Hall of Fame in 1990 and the FLC Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995.
