About Mickey Campbell

Mickey Campbell is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geosciences at Fort Lewis College. He joined the college in 2018. His research focuses on a wide range of applications in GIS, geospatial modeling, and remote sensing. Most recently, Campbell's work has focused on the application of lidar remote sensing technology to wildland firefighter safety, focusing on the development of analytical techniques for identifying and evaluating firefighter safety zones and escape routes. This research was recently featured in a number of media outlets, including a feature in Smithsonian magazine. Prior to his Ph.D. research, he worked as a Remote Sensing Analyst at the U.S. Forest Service Geospatial Technology and Applications Center in Salt Lake City, where he focused on remote sensing of vegetation throughout National Forest lands of the Intermountain West. Campbell has been utilizing GIS and remote sensing technology for over a decade, as a student of geography and natural resources, and as a professional in the private, public, and non-profit sectors. His research has been published in many of the top remote sensing, GIS, and fire scientific journals and has presented his work at many academic and professional conferences.

Campbell is always excited to explore the vast capabilities of GIS and remote sensing technology and tap into new and exciting application areas. He is eager to work with motivated students and talented collaborators to develop new analytical techniques for studying a wide range of subject matter.
