Hello AISES Family,

Welcome! The American Indian Science and Engineering Society of Fort Lewis College (FLC-AISES) is pleased to invite you to the Region 3 Conference. Our conference theme is “Upgrade Today to Transform Tomorrow.” The event is planned for March 14-15, 2014. The conference will have a college track and a high school track. Please click here to view the college agenda, or here to view the high school agenda. Please click here for a map and driving directions to the FLC campus.

Our goal for this event is to enlighten college and high school students by offering information on higher education, scholarship opportunities, professional development workshops, and careers in the medical and STEM fields, just to name a few. The Conference will consist of break-out sessions highlighting the importance of bridging our Indigenous cultural teachings with a college education. In break-out sessions, various scientific disciplines are presented, demonstrating the exciting world of science and engineering. Topics include the journey of current graduate students and their path to success, and community development workshops. Our goals are to inspire individuals to challenge and enrich themselves through Indigenous teachings, western knowledge, and taking on leadership roles.

This year’s conference guest speakers, Dr. Mary Jo Ondrechen, former President and member of the Board of Directors of the AISES organization, and Dr. Stanley Atcitty, winner of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, will both highlight their careers in biomedical research, environmental sustainability, and their leadership roles in their Native communities and in academia.

Best Western Durango Inn & Suites is offering discounted rates to conference attendees. Contact information will be provided to you once you submit your registration.

We are very excited for this conference, and we believe that this event will give our members an invaluable opportunity and the inspiration to carry this tradition forward. Our FLC-AISES chapter has the vision to develop a new generation of Indigenous scientists and leaders.
