Finishing up Fall 2020

FLC's clocktower in the center of campus on a sunny spring day

The coronavirus pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on our society, but our Skyhawk community has risen to the challenge. Together we safely managed a reopening of campus for in-person instruction and despite our hard work, circumstances require us to complete our semester virtually. Campus is still your home and the best place for you to be to finish the semester strong. Your learning and educational pursuits don’t stop with these end-of-semester modifications. We are still #FLCTogether.

Stay healthy, protect the health of others

The Governor continues to urge all Coloradans to wear masks in public, and to do a better job avoiding socializing and mixing between households. COVID-19 is still very present in our communities and we need to do our part in reducing spread.

Traveling home at the end of the semester?

  • Start limiting your social contacts to reduce the potential of contracting the virus and carrying it home with you to your loved ones. The CDC recommends self-isolating as much as possible for at least two weeks prior to traveling and to get your flu shot before you go.
  • Take advantage of free testing before you leave campus; results take up to 72 hours so be sure to schedule your test in time to receive your results before arriving home.
  • The FLC testing site is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon, and will remain open over winter break.
  • Get tech rentals to finish your courses remotely and complete your finals online.

Dining & housing

Dining schedule

The Rocket Grill and Jones coffee shop are now closed. Meal plans continue through December 5 with limited hours after November 25 for students living on campus.

For the students living on campus over the Fall Break, the dining hall will have food available for you.

Housing schedule

Fort Lewis College is not refunding fall semester housing charges, because residence halls remain open and campus services continue to be available to all students. In fact, we strongly recommend that students stay on campus to ensure a successful completion of the semester. Housing occupants are bound to the Student Housing Contract and may not cancel in order to change place of residence to a private home, apartment or other off‑campus accommodation (while remaining a student at Fort Lewis College).

Finally, all students are asked to test, quarantine, and return home only once they have received a negative test result.

24-hour Quiet Hours are in effect. Please be sensitive to your neighbors’ need to sleep and study during finals.

Residence halls close Saturday, December 5 at 9 a.m. for Winter Break.

  • If you are returning to your current space for Spring semester, personal items can be left in your housing assignment over break, but you will not be able to access them after this time. Please bring home all items you will need over the break.
  • If you are not returning to your Fall housing space for Spring semester, you will not follow the checkout directions below. Instead, you will need to follow the checkout directions that will be sent soon to your FLC email.
  • Any student athletes living on campus during Winter Break should check with their coach about specifics of student housing and dining.

Sign up for your Check Out Day

Please tell us which day you plan to checkout from the halls for Fall 2020 using the link sent to your FLC email.

Preparing for Check Out

There was a detailed email sent to your FLC email on how to prepare your room for checking out. If you plan on leaving your vehicle at FLC over break, you must move it to the South Stadium or Skyhawk Lot. Cars not moved may be towed for snow removal.

Once you leave for break, you will not be allowed back into your residence hall until the halls re-open on Monday, January 25 through Wednesday, January 27. You will be emailed your scheduled time to return before departing for Winter Break.

On-campus apartments

Every student staying MUST register to stay In your apartment over break.

You will be contacted via email if cars need to be moved for plowing. Please be checking your Fort Lewis emails daily for potential notifications.

Register for Skyhawk Alert for emergency communication over the break.

During the break, La Plata Integrated Health will help provide healthcare coverage for students that remain on campus. More information to come.

If you need assistance over the break, please call 970-335-8869.

Students who travel outside of the area should quarantine for 5-7 days from last possible exposure and monitor symptoms.
