About Dr. Andreas Tischhauser

Dr. Andreas Tischhauser comes (back) to Fort Lewis from the Bay Area where worked with the world’s finest choral ensemble, Chanticleer. Although no longer working for Chanticleer, Andreas is proud to have been named to their National Advisory Board in recognition for his service from 2014-2016.  Andreas originally moved to the Southwest in 1997 where, over the course of ten years, served on the faculty at FLC as visiting professor of flute, voice, and veritable potpourri of academic courses. In 2008 Andreas left the mountains to serve on the faculty of the College of Music at Florida State University but was easily lured back to the Southwest in 2010 to oversee the reconstruction of the struggling Santa Fe Desert Chorale. From 2010 to 2014 Andreas was Executive Director of the Desert Chorale and Professor of Voice at the Santa Fe University of Art and Design. No stranger to Santa Fe or surrounding areas, Dr. Tischhauser previously served as principal flutist of the Santa Fe Symphony, and sang with the Santa Fe Opera, Santa Fe Pro Musica, and the Santa Fe Desert Chorale. Dr. Tischhauser has worked with some of the finest musical minds of the last century including Mandy Patinkin, David Brubeck, John Corigliano, Sir Collin Davis, Bobby McFerrin, Yo Yo Ma, Helmut Rilling, Garrison Keillor, Robert Spano, James Galway, Philip Glass, and Robert Shaw. While enjoying a very Classical background, Andreas also enjoys a spicier side working as a stage performer (singer/actor/dancer – although no one wants to see him dance!) for the Diamond Circle Melodrama in Durango (2005 – 2007), and was last seen in Santa Fe Reps’ production of Company (2010), Follies (2014), and The Fantastics (2014).  In addition to stage work in music theater, he enjoys educating the next generation and has served as music director for youth and college productions of Seussical, Frog and Toad, High School Musical, Into the Woods, The Wizard of Oz, and Urine Town. Turning completely toward popular idioms Andreas, in association with the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, created New Mexico’s first professional vocal a cappella ensemble, Voasis. Dr. Tischhauser received his education from Wichita State University, the University of Colorado-Boulder, the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and Florida State University.
