Are you ready to take the next steps?
Biochemistry majors deal in curiosity. You can engage with modern laboratory techniques and collaborate with peers. You can participate in cutting-edge research with faculty members year-round. And by graduation, you can choose to continue straight into a professional or graduate program, or immediately start your technical career.
The Colorado Commission on Higher Education named our Chemistry & Biochemistry Department a Program of Excellence, recognizing our program as one of the best in the state. We rank in the National Science Foundation’s top 20% for the number of graduates who go on to earn a Ph.D. in chemistry.
Once you graduate, you are qualified to enter directly into a technical career, and to apply to any related professional and graduate program.
Earning this degree also leads to careers in such fields as:
For any career, this degree establishes that you are highly adaptable. You can think critically about challenging issues, solve problems creatively, and collaborate with effective communication and analytical skills. You will be able to apply the tools, methods, and knowledge from the Biochemistry program to any area concerned with addressing material problems.
If you intend to earn an advanced degree in chemistry or biochemistry, engineering, medicine, or other science-based postgraduate program for the purpose of teaching or research or clinical practice, we encourage you to extend the basic Biochemistry major by including three or four additional courses in biology, chemistry, mathematics, or physics. You can consult with the Department faculty to select these courses.
If you intend to pursue professional studies in pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, physical therapy, nursing, or veterinary medicine, you should consult with the Chemistry & Biochemistry faculty and the Pre-Health Advisory Committee when planning your studies.
