New information and format this year - please read!!

Letter from our Director:

I hope you have had a wonderful year since we last spent time together!  The singing continues here at Fort Lewis College, as we recently returned from a wonderful European Choral solo tour featuring the Fort Lewis Choirs in Italy, Austria, and Germany.  Fifty singers in all experienced singing in the Pantheon in Rome, Basilica San Marco in Venice, the Basilica of San Francesco in Assisi, and the Sazlburg Dom, among others.  Now we are back and looking forward to another great year, and I would like to invite you all to come to Fort Lewis College on November 12th to enjoy a wonderful Honor Choir experience together!

As many of you know, there has been some discussion about gradually changing the format of the FLC Honor Choir with hopes to create a more fulfilling experience for the students involved.  One of those changes will be taking place this year, and that will involve a very simple audition process. We will be sending out a brief rating form for you to fill out for each of your students (you may be familiar with these types of forms for Honor Band and other Choral Honors events). We will also be asking you to record a sample of each student singing “America the Beautiful” in selected keys depending on each voice part (pdf sheet music will be provided). Your recommendation forms will be reviewed and all recordings will be heard so we can make a decision about which students should participate in the Honor Choir.  Submissions will be due by September 25th, 2015.

Students with outstanding auditions and recommendations will have the opportunity to participate in the new Honor Chamber Choir. This choir will perform one or two pieces of advanced literature and will be featured on the program and in the concert at the end of the day. They will rehearse during sectional rehearsal for the larger group. You will be notified about your students as soon as all submissions are received, no later than October 9th.

Change is never easy, but it is required to grow and improve. Please contact Shauna Blaylock or me if you have any questions about the process. I look forward to seeing you all in November!
