Native American Center

Professional Development Series

As students at Fort Lewis begin to develop their professional identity, they may not know how to accomplish their academic and professional goals.  Personally students may not be aware of others who have achieved the same goals they pursue or all of the facets of what they can do with their current major.  To aid in retention, this NAC program invites Native professionals in various disciplines to spend a day in the center and visit classrooms to interact with students.  These professionals share their experience of how they navigated through the institution of higher education.  Professionals also share their journey from goal setting through goal attainment.  Their experiences demonstrate how they successfully moved through their college career and overcame the challenges they faced as students.

Typically, a free lunch is available to students who sign up in advance to eat and visit with the professional. To see who is coming this semester, and contact Jim Engle at, or 247-7292 to sign up for the event!

*We value your input! If you would like to recommend a Native professional for our series, please contact Jim Engle at
