Dr. Paul McGurr named interim dean of FLC School of Business Administration

Fort Lewis College Provost Dr. Barbara Morris has announced that Dr. Paul McGurr will serve as interim dean for the FLC School of Business Administration. Dr. McGurr takes over for Dr. Doug Lyon, who served as dean since 2011. Dr. Lyon moved to the College’s Office of Advancement, where he works in corporate and community relations.

Dr. Kelly Jenks named winner of 2014 New Faculty Teaching Award

Some might think that we already know pretty much all there is to know about the past, especially the history of this country. Assistant Professor of Anthropology Dr. Kelly Jenks, however, always felt that there was more to history than what she was taught growing up. From an early age, the 2014-15 Fort Lewis College New Faculty Teaching Award winner felt the need to study the past, particularly that of the Southwest, in order to help others learn about their heritage and gain a new and deeper perspective on the world. Dr. Brian Burke named winner of 2013 Fort Lewis College Achievement Award

What do Costa Rica, happiness, and the Fort Lewis College Achievement Award have in common? In his decade of work, Associate Professor of Psychology Brian Burke has shown deep dedication to the college’s staff, faculty, and students, as well as the Durango community. Per the American Psychological Association’s mantra to “give psychology away,” Dr. Burke has spread his enthusiasm off campus to the new Durango Discovery Museum, an interactive science center, shared his expertise in Durango Herald articles and an NPR short, and trained Axis, San Juan Basin Health, La Plata Youth Services, and Durango School District 9-R staff in Motivational Interviewing, an evidence-based counseling approach.

The $41.5 million refurbishing and expansion of the former College Union Building creates a vibrant new hub of campus life, energizing the student experience at FLC. And it has been, from conception to design to funding, a student-driven endeavor.
