Last Thursday, Fort Lewis College's Associate Professor of Political Science Yohannes Woldemariam was an invited guest on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Radio 5 Live show, Up All Night, which covers news, politics, and cultural affairs from around the globe. Woldemariam weighed in on the trials and tribulations facing Africans who flee poverty-stricken, war-torn, and persecuted countries in search of a better life.

Miss Hozhoni for 2015-16 is Nicole Lovato, a junior Native American & Indigenous Studies major from Santo Domingo Pueblo in New Mexico. Lovato is active with the Native American Center, loves doing outdoor activities, and carries a 4.0 GPA.

BBC News looks at alumna's film documenting challenges of photographers in Afghanistan

“I really love when people walk away from the film and say, 'I had no idea about Afghanistan,'” says Alexandria Bombach (Business Administration, '08). “That's the major goal, to show a side of Afghanistan that people aren't used to seeing.”

Bombach was speaking to the BBC in a recent interview about her upcoming documentary Frame by Frame. In the film, co-directed with filmmaker Mo Scarpelli, Bombach explores the challenges and risks faced by Afghan photographers engaging in a practice that was outlawed under Taliban rule. Today these photographers worry about their futures as American forces pull out of the country.

Promotions, tenure, and emerita status for faculty: 2014-15

Fort Lewis College annually evaluates professors on the merit of their teaching, service, and scholarly activities and confers promotions and tenure to high achievers. In addition, some professors are awarded the title of Emerita to honor them for lengthy service.

Alternative Spring Break: Taking a week on!

On March 21st, eleven FLC students traveled to Arizona to meet with the Grand Canyon Trust, a conservation group based in Flagstaff, Arizona. This was the beginning of Fort Lewis College’s second annual Alternative Spring Break. I had the good fortune of helping to organize the trip, and was accompanied by some of the best people I’ve ever had the good luck to meet. The students who signed up were passionate, soulful, and committed to the purpose of the trip: helping others, conservation, and having the time of our lives while doing so.

I work as a family nurse practitioner in the Student Health Center, and just love my job! I see students for primary and preventive health care issues. I have been working here for 11 years.
