Student-inspired conference lands students in the business world

Three years ago, Simon Walls’ Marketing Research students conducted a study with the Durango Chamber of Commerce. The results revealed that local professionals desired more education about how to utilize digital marketing to advance their businesses. The research students recommended the idea of hosting a digital marketing conference in the community. Walls, an associate professor of Marketing, made the idea a reality.

What's better than spending part of the summer in Italy? Totally immersing yourself in the history, art, design, and culture of the country. Ten students in Art 390: European Art & Culture, instructed by Associate Professor of Art & Design Paul Booth, had the opportunity to do just that for two weeks in May 2016. They traveled through Rome, Orvieto, Siena, Florence, and Milan to observe and learn about architecture, sculpture, ruins, and more. Here are a few snapshots into their adventure.

Village Aid Project / Engineers Without Borders is a group of volunteer faculty members, students and community partners who share the belief that everyone in the world has certain basic rights such as a right to safety, a right to the resources needed to feed and care for their family, a right to clean water and others. They work with villagers in rural villages in Thailand, Laos, Ecuador, Nicaragua, and Myanmar to assist in the construction of water and sanitation systems.

Instead of donning jerseys and leather helmets, the remaining members of the ’49 Aggies now huddle over Italian food at Dino’s Restaurant in Lakewood, Colorado. This past June, seven teammates made it for their reunion lunch.

FLC mourns former President Joel M. Jones

Former Fort Lewis College president Joel Jones passed away just before midnight on Wednesday, July 13. Dr. Jones was named FLC president in 1988 after serving as vice president for Administration and Student Affairs at the University of New Mexico. He would serve at the helm of the College until 1998.
