Student development and empowerment are at the forefront of all we do at Fort Lewis College. With this philosophy in mind, we have developed a model for New Student Orientation whereby student leaders work directly with new students and their family members, familiarizing Orientation participants with the campus environment, and educating them about the extensive resources available at FLC to support student success. After all, who better to make new arrivals feel welcome and prepare for a fulfilling college experience than their fellow students?
With this student driven model for Orientation being such a success, we are always on the lookout for new and developing student leaders to join our team! Students who participate as Orientation Leaders make lifelong friends, and come away with an experience that is truly fulfilling. Guiding their peers gives Orientation Leaders the opportunity to demonstrate many of the important skills that employers look for in new college graduates, such as communication, time management, public speaking, and the ability to work successfully in a team oriented environment. Also, Student Orientation Leaders have a great time and are well paid for their efforts! In fact, most students who choose to become Orientation Leaders remain part of the team until they graduate.
