Join us for SkyWords

SkyWords Visiting Writers Series connects students and the Durango community with emerging and established writers in dialogue about the power of story. SkyWords provides a space for engagement in discussion about narrative, writing craft, and the big ideas engaging our culture. The diversity of voices, backgrounds, traditions, and visions for the future showcased by SkyWords writers captures the possibilities writing offers for connection, understanding, and change.      


Common Reading Experience

SkyWords announces Nebula award-winning Lipan Apache author, Darci Little Badger, as 2024 SkyWords Common Read author. 

Little Badger will visit Fort Lewis College on Thursday, April 4, 2024, for two events:

  • 1–2:15 p.m.  informal dialogue with Darcie, Student Union Ballroom
  • 6–7:30 p.m. reading and book signing, Student Union Ballroom

Both events are open to the Fort Lewis community. The evening event is open to the public. Tickets for the 6 p.m. event are free for FLC students, faculty, staff, and alums. Tickets for the public are $20, with all proceeds supporting SkyWords programming. A livestream option is available for the 6 p.m. event. Streaming tickets for the public are $10. Tickets will be available in early February.

About Darcie Little Badger 

Darcie Little Badger is a Lipan Apache writer with a Ph.D. in oceanography. Her critically acclaimed debut novel, Elatsoe, was featured in Time Magazine as one of the best 100 fantasy books of all time. Elatsoe also won the Locus award for Best First Novel and is a Nebula, Ignyte, and Lodestar finalist.
