The purpose of Student Wellness Initiatives is to promote healthy behaviors and lifestyles in the student population through campus-wide educational programming delivered by staff and students. Programs offered through the department focus on a variety of health and wellness factors. The office also conducts data collection and analysis in order to focus educational programming and presentations on:
- Sexual responsibility
- Healthy lifestyles
- Alcohol, tobacco, and other substance use and misuse
- Physical fitness and exercise
- Secondhand smoke related issues for college students and faculty/staff
- Mental health
- AND SO MUCH MORE!
To meet the needs of all students we focus our efforts towards individuals, groups and to the general population to strengthen the health and safety of our campus community.
Individuals can participate using the online alcohol or other drug assessment tools (See E-checkup on the menu), participate in alcohol screenings, one-to-one peer consultations or as a peer health educator through the Wellness Peer Advisory Council (WellPAC).
Groups, such as new students, resident assistants, student of a particular major, classes or other groups participate in educational workshops, bystander intervention trainings, and alternative social programming.
All students at FLC have opportunities to engage with Student Wellness at our alcohol or other drug awareness events, student union programs and media campaigns.
Through educational efforts, Student Wellness Initiatives reduces health and safety consequences related to unhealthy and risky behaviors, while actively promoting campus and community factors that support healthy and safe norms.
