1990 - 1991 Theatre Season
Maids & Deathwatch
Written by Jean Genet.
Maids & Deathwatch are two separate plays by the same author. Deathwatch is an hour long play about a lethal criminal in prison attempting to incarcerate his cell mates in his misleading world.
Maids is a production of women who go through a few entertaining transformations.
Written by William Shakespeare.
Taking place on an island, The Tempest tells the story of sailors that wash up on shore after a storm destroys their ship, where they encounter the islands inhabitants and supernatural happenings. The plot revolves around the idea of justice, the difficulty distinguishing between "men" and "monsters", and the allure of ruling a colony. One of Shakespeare's romantic comedies, it is a great dramatic fugue of lost illusion, bitter wisdom, and fragile hope.

The action of Steel Magnolias centers around Truvy's beauty parlor and some women who regularly gather there. The drama begins on the morning of Shelby's wedding to Jackson and covers events over the next few years, including Shelby's decision to have a child despite having Type 1 Diabetes and the consequences that result from the decision. We also get a glimpse of the unlikely friendship between Clairee and Ouiser; Annelle's transformations from a shy, anxious newcomer in town, to a partying woman, then to a religious fundamentalist; and Truvy's relationships with the men in her family. Although the main storyline involves Shelby, her mother, and Shelby's battle with her medical condition, the underlying group-friendship among all six women is prominent throughout the drama. Unlike the movie by the same name, only the female characters appear onstage, the male characters are only mentioned in dialogue.
