Lecturer, Writing Program
Melinda grew up in Littleton, CO where she learned to love the mountains. She took off to explore those mountains right after high school when she moved to Summit County, CO. After a few years there, she decided to she wanted to see more, so she packed a bag and bought a plane ticket. During the next five years, she waited tables in Queenstown, New Zealand; ran a kitchen in the tiny outback town of Sandstone, Australia; she volunteered in a landmine museum in Siem Reap, Cambodia; and taught English in Baku, Azerbaijan. When she finally decided to stand still, she earned her undergraduate degree at University of Colorado Denver and then went on to get her Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from New Mexico State University. She believes writing and critical thinking are tools that help us explore and connect with our communities, our world, and ourselves.
