Fort Lewis on the Water

Introducing "FLOW"

In 2020, Fort Lewis College purchased a commercial rafting company and is launching a college-wide river program called Fort Lewis on the Water. FLOW will offer river-based programming and educational opportunities for a range of academic departments, co-curricular programs, FLC alumni, and community partners. The acquisition includes not only gear and permits for the San Juan and Chama rivers but also opens the door to next-level experiential learning opportunities, leadership development, recreation and wellness outlets, service-learning components, and programs that serve to advance partnerships with regional schools.

Bruce Saxman, FLOW coordinator

A years-long work in progress, FLOW is a product of collaboration between several programs and individuals on campus, including Outdoor Pursuits, the Four Corners Water Center, the School of Education, the Adventure Education, Biology, and Geosciences departments, and FLC's Chief Operating Officer Steve Schwartz.

FLC leadership is proud to welcome FLOW Coordinator Bruce Saxman, who is also a lecturer in Adventure Education. Saxman comes to Durango from the University of Idaho, where he served as a clinical assistant professor of Recreation, Sport & Tourism Management and the coordinator of the Outdoor Recreation Leadership minor.
