FLC plays critical role in civil action

When the need for extra medical supplies seized the Four Corners, Erin Lehmer and Steven Fenster, co-chairs of FLC’s Biology Department, organized a campus-wide collection of personal protection equipment, which were delivered to local healthcare facilities.

Meanwhile, local MakerLab's director Ryan Finnigan contacted FLC to help design and manufacture medical supplies. Shop coordinator for FLC's Physics & Engineering Department lab, Jason Wagner, was already in the lab working on prototypes, so Finnigan dubbed Wagner "Production Manager" for the Western Slope Medical Supply Response Team.

Thanks to community donations and FLC's equipment, the WSMSRT fashioned 250 Powered Air-Purifying Respirators, 180 face shields, 200 reusable hospital gowns, and 1,200+ safety glasses.

"It's just the right thing to do," says Wagner. "I have a particular skillset and access to the Fort's immense resources, so it's my responsibility to step in for the greater good."
