Skyhawk Athletics headline Fort Lewis College Homecoming Week
Fort Lewis College Homecoming Week is here. Alumni and friends of FLC are invited to join in one of the College’s oldest and largest celebrations. For a complete schedule of Homecoming events, visit www.fortlewis.edu/homecoming.
On Friday, October 2, everyone is invited to cheer on the Skyhawks as women’s soccer takes on Western State, men’s soccer plays Westminster, and volleyball goes against Colorado Mines. Check www.goskyhawks.com for ticket prices and more information on the games.
At 8 p.m. on Friday will be the annual Homecoming Bonfire and Fireworks Show taking place at the FLC Softball Complex. Admission is free for everyone.
Special events for FLC alumni are also planned for Friday, including a Prohibition Tour led by Dr. Duane Smith. This 21-and-older tour begins at Brew in downtown Durango at 5:30 p.m. For more information and to register, visit www.fortlewis.edu/alumni.
Sports are the name of the game on Saturday, October 3. The FLC Homecoming Tailgate Party begins at 11 a.m. in the Dennison Field parking lot. At noon, the Skyhawk Football team tackles Western New Mexico. Skyhawk Football is 3-1 on the season and undefeated in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Following football, Skyhawk Volleyball plays Colorado Christian in Whalen Gym at 5 p.m.
Also on Saturday is the Skyhawk Sports Spectacular presented by Fort Lewis College Athletics. The Spectacular is a celebration of all things Skyhawk and a fundraiser for the sports programs. Live, silent and online auctions will feature items such as a fishing trip to Riversong Lodge in Alaska, Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad tickets, Durango vacation packages, apparel, sports memorabilia, Skyhawk team packages, gift certificates, and more. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online, along with bidding on auction items, at http://fortlewis.schoolauction.net/spectacular2015.
FLC Homecoming Week wraps up on Sunday, October 4 with the FLC Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Strater Hotel at 9 a.m. and Skyhawk Women’s Soccer vs. UC-Colorado Springs at 1 p.m. on Dirks Field. Visit www.goskyhawks.com for more information.
