Students find summertime snow during leadership training [PHOTOS]

On Sunday, 80 new freshmen set out to learn about themselves and their peers in the rugged San Juan Mountains through a pre-orientation program called Peak Experiences. The leaders of these life-changing trips are students themselves—graduates of Outdoor PursuitsStudent Outdoor Leadership program, as well as Adventure Education’s Outdoor Orientation Leadership course. Participants in both of these programs receive professional training in group dynamics, teaching techniques, decision making, backcountry travel, risk management, wilderness medicine, technical mountain skills, and leave-no-trace practices.  In addition to leading Peak Experiences trips, the SOL graduates lead trips for Outdoor Pursuits throughout the school year.  Here’s a glimpse into SOL’s recent summer Mountaineering Training.
