Acknowledging the past to focus on the future

The contradiction between Fort Lewis College’s past as a boarding school and present as a Native American serving institution is stark, according to an op-ed for The Durango Herald by President Tom Stritikus,  VP  for Diversity Affairs Heather Shotton and board trustee Ernest House Jr. “We expect the unveiling of these painful truths to sharpen our focus on the future.” The piece was published ahead of the release of History Colorado’s full report on the state’s federal Indian boarding schools.
