In February, FLC welcomed author Craig Childs and his book Apocalyptic Planet: Field Guide to the Future of the Earth for this year’s Common Reading Experience. In the book, Childs ventured to the earth’s extreme environments to explore what the end of the world looks like.

Dr. Bernard Adams became president of Fort Lewis College in 1985, replacing the retiring Rexer Berndt. A memorial service for Dr. Adams will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 11 at the Broadmoor Community Church, 315 Lake Avenue, Colorado Springs 80906.

Alumnus Peter Mesard says he chose to attend Fort Lewis College because of the outdoors—the skiing and the mountain climbing, especially. But his academic experience is what stuck with him, so much so that he has established the Peter Mesard Undergraduate Research Fund for present and future FLC students.

Amanda Schoolland (Music Education, '11) was honored with the Outstanding Young Music Educator Award at the CMEA Convention in Colorado Springs.

Amy Gilley, lecturer in scenic design and technical director in the Theatre Department, was chosen to read a creative piece, "Ragged Patterns of Breath," at the Louisville Conference on Literature and Culture in February 2017.

Sandy Gilpin, Leslie Goldstein and Brian Burke's MyMathLab Educator Study, measuring student success strategies in Introduction to Algebra, was recently published by Pearson.

FLC was named a Fulbright Top Producing Institution for 2016-17. Three faculty were named Fulbright Scholars for the academic year: Justin McBrayer, associate professor of philosophy (Austria); Ross McCauley, associate professor of biology (Galapagos Islands); and Nancy Cardona, associate professor of English (Norway).

Three scholars from Fort Lewis College (FLC) were awarded Fulbright grants for 2016-2017, tied for the most with the U.S. Naval Academy among bachelor’s institutions.  Top-producing institutions are highlighted annually in The Chronicle of Higher Education.
