Each fall, students from the Environmental Center help out Bear Smart Durango's Fruit Gleaning Program. Students and community members pick unwanted fruit from local trees to cut down on human-bear interactions and make juice, cider, and apple ice cream!

In early 2016, the Fort Lewis College (FLC) Foundation announced a contribution of $1.4 million to the FLC Teacher Education program.

The Smith Sports Complex, named after Professor Emeritus Duane Smith, is now open for local youth and FLC sports teams. The 15-acre facility is located on the northeast corner of campus.
