Adventures for Hopi, a program founded by Fort Lewis College alumnus Marshall Masayesva (Adventure Education, 2014), has been awarded a $10,000 grant through the KEEN Effect grant program, which supports nonprofits around the world that inspire responsible outdoor participation.

Brian Burke and colleagues from Cardinal Stritch University, the Medical College of Wisconsin, and the University of South Florida recently published the second edition of their book Abnormal Psychology.

Psychology Professor Brian Burke recently took five Fort Lewis students on the Clinical Psychology Field School program, a five-week externship incorporated into a six-credit upper-level psychology elective. From June to July 2015, students worked at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan and Pueblo.

Physics & Engineering Professor Ryan Haaland was mentioned in a LiveScience article about the sprites viewed from the International Space Station on August 10.

FLC Professors Cynthia Dott and Gary Gianniny lead students into the Animas River watershed to survey groundwater levels in the aftermath of the Gold King Mine spill.

“Famous Water,” a poem authored by English Senior Lecturer Steven Meyers, has been published by Sage Green Journal, an online poetry journal that focuses on Western poets. 

Brent Williams, assistant professor of Music, has been appointed to the Board of Directors for the San Juan Symphony, which draws musicians from Fort Lewis College and the Four Corners region.

Biology Professor Julie Korb had an article published in Forest Ecology and Management titled “Five-year post-restoration conditions and simulated climate-change trajectories in a warm/dry mixed-conifer forest, southwestern Colorado, USA.” 

The sciences are on the rise at Fort Lewis College -- floor by floor, as the new Geosciences, Engineering & Physics Hall takes shape on the west side of campus.

Inside Durango TV covered the five-year $1.1 million grant award to the STEM Success Center.

The EPA has released more data; interpretation of these data remains a point of confusion for the many.  Concerned citizens have told me they appreciate the Animas River Updates; many have still have unanswered questions and have contacted me requesting more information. This update is provided to address some of those lingering questions.
