A day of activities will honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day at Fort Lewis College

The annual Fort Lewis College tradition of celebrating Dr. King’s legacy will be held on Monday, January 16, 2012. The community is invited to join in the day’s free activities.

A peace and unity march will begin the celebration at 12:20 p.m. Those wishing to participate should gather at the Center of Southwest Studies. An open mic, choir performance, and hot chocolate will conclude the march.

Following the march will be a presentation from the Code Red and Embracing Diversity Initiative in the Student Union, Vallecito Room at 1:30 p.m. A coat drive to benefit the less fortunate is also being held all day and coats can be donated at any of the MLK Day events.

Monday evening at 7 p.m. will be a screening of the documentary Precious Knowledge, a film examining the fight in Tucson high schools to save their ethnic studies classes from termination. The screening will take place in the Student Union Ballroom.
