Fort Lewis College celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The annual Fort Lewis College tradition of celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy will be held on Monday, January 16, 2017. The community is invited to join in the day’s free activities.

The traditional March of Solidarity will begin the celebration at 12:15 p.m. Those wishing to participate should gather at the Center of Southwest Studies. The march will wind through campus, ending outside Reed Library where the FLC Choir will perform at 12:30 p.m.

This year’s activities will focus on food justice. Two food justice workshops will be held, the first at 1:25 p.m. and the second at 2:30 p.m., in the Student Union Ballroom. A presentation entitled “Food and Power” will take place in the Ballroom at 6 p.m.

Among those featured in the food justice programs are Beverly Grant from Denver’s Mo Betta Green Marketplace, Feed the Hood from Albuquerque, Brandon Francis from Yeego Gardening in Farmington, and Mike Nolan from the National Young Farmers Coalition.

Special thanks go to the Rochester Hotel for making the day’s events happen.
