Fort Lewis College first-year students are eligible for free local season ski passes

Study breaks just got more adventurous for first-year Fort Lewis College students. Mountain Capital Partners is now offering free season ski passes to first-time, first-year students carrying at least 12-credit hours for Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters. The passes are good for turns at Purgatory Resort, 25 miles north of Durango, and Hesperus Ski Area, just 11 miles west of Durango.

“We’re so grateful for this partnership with Mountain Capital Partners. It highlights the amenities available to our students and the strong relationship and support we have with the Durango community,” says Jess Savage, director of Admission. “It signals to students and families that the community values our students and wants to see them experience more than just campus.”

Winter operations begin for Purgatory around mid-November and by late December for Hesperus. Both resorts offer incomparable vantages of southwest Colorado. Purgatory boasts steep tree skiing and stunning views of the San Juan Mountains, and Hesperus Ski Area is a student’s ultimate access to powder turns after class, as it is the largest night-skiing operation in the Southwest.

“College is about getting a great education, but it’s also a time for personal growth and exploration – this is the perfect way to encourage students to take advantage of our beautiful location and maybe try something new,” says Savage. “As we say, the Fort Lewis College experience is about education and adventure!”

Students considered full-time after each semester’s Census Date will be eligible for a ski pass and a unique opportunity to connect with the Durango community.

“The goal of the overall program is to help recruit more students to a great college,” says James Coleman, managing partner and owner of Purgatory Resort and Hesperus Ski Area. “And the long-term goal is to have FLC graduates who love skiing become productive Durango residents.”
