Over three months, 10 faculty and staff members received grants for their programs and departments, ranging in size from $1200 - $200,000.
Shere Byrd, Professor, Biology and Dick Grossman received $1,200 from the Ballantine Family Fund to bring Lifelong Learning Speaker Dr. Phil Cafaro to Durango in February 2016.
Peggy Ferguson, Director, Campbell Child and Family Center, received $1,750 from Invest in Kids for a stipend to support a parenting group leader for 2014-15.
Marianne Gurule-Hardy, Associate Director, Financial Aid, received $25,000 from the Daniel’s Fund Boundless Opportunity Scholarship program to fund scholarships for adult learners who are participants of the TRIO Student Support Services programs STEM3 and the TRIO Student Success Center.
Marianne Gurule-Hardy, Associate Director, Financial Aid, received $15,000 from the Boettcher Foundation to fund scholarships for the 2016 Boettcher Opportunity Award recipients.
Nik Kenziorski, Archives Manager, Center of Southwest Studies, received $4,000 from the Colorado State Archives-Colorado Historic Records Advisory Board for the Walker Art Studio Nitrate negatives Preservation Project.
Charles Leslie, Director, Community Concert Hall, received $24,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts, Art Works, for “Living Legacy: Mesa Verde in Motion,” a multidisciplinary arts project that will explore the themes of land and people of Mesa Verde National Park through the presentation of a multidisciplinary work by Dancing Earth Indigenous Contemporary Dance Creations, as well as an exhibit of photographs and documents from the discovery, excavation, and opening of Mesa Verde National Park.
El Centro de Muchos Colores received $20,000 from the Salazar Family Foundation for its La Movida newsletter, Fiesta on the Mesa, Ballet Folklorico professional development workshops and dance scholarships, the El Centro book scholarship and general operating expenses. The grant was written by Doug Lyon, Senior Corporate and Foundation Officer, Office of Advancement.
Doug Lyon, Senior Corporate and Foundation Officer, Office of Advancement, received $100,000 (in installments of $50,000 per year over two years) from the El Pomar Foundation for capital construction funding for the Geosciences, Physics and Engineering Hall.

William Nollet, Assistant Professor, Physics & Engineering, received $2,000 from Frontier Aerospace to support undergraduate student research on boundary layer cooling for rocket propulsion systems.
Kendra Gallegos Reichle, Coordinator, Student Wellness, received $1,500 from the Coalition of Colorado Campus Alcohol and Drug Educators, National Collegiate Health Assessment Administration to administer a campus survey project.
Ryan Smith, Associate Professor, Physics & Engineering, received $10,000 from the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad so that Smith and his students can create 3-D printed models of brake head components for the DSNGRR locomotives.
Michael Valdez, Associate Professor, School of Business Administration, received $2,500 from the Ballantine Family Fund to sponsor the 2nd Place Award for the 2016 FLC Hawk Tank Business Plan competition.
