Over 520 Fort Lewis College students will receive their degrees at Fort Lewis College's Spring Commencement. Congratulations to all of the newest FLC alumni!

As he completes his service as Colorado’s Lieutenant Governor, Joe Garcia will offer the Commencement Address at Spring’s Commencement. In order to better accommodate the graduates, two commencement ceremonies will be held on Saturday, April 30, the first at 8:30 a.m. and the second at 11:30 a.m. Both ceremonies will be in Whalen Gym and will feature the Lieutenant Governor.

Lt. Gov. Garcia was elected in 2010 following a career of service in and out of politics. After graduating from Harvard with a Juris Doctorate, he became the first Hispanic partner at the law firm of Holme, Roberts, and Owen, LLP. He was appointed to former Colorado Governor Roy Romer’s Cabinet as Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies and acted as the Rocky Mountain States Representative for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. He also served under both Governor Romer and Governor Bill Owens on the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority.

The Lieutenant Governor is no stranger to higher education, having previously served as president of Colorado State University-Pueblo. In addition to his elected post, he currently works as Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education.
