New strategic plan adopted by Board of Trustees
The strategic plan for Fort Lewis College was adopted on Friday after a unanimous vote of approval from the Board of Trustees. President Tom Stritikus presented the plan as a guide for future administrative decisions, focused on four major areas including Students at the Center, Community Responsiveness, Knowledge in Action, and Systems to Facilitate Success. The Board’s approval was the final step before the plan’s implementation, a process that Stritikus and the development teams will begin immediately.
“Our Team Leads did a great job bringing the voice and priorities of our campus into this plan,” says Stritikus. “With their work and the excitement to get going across campus, we can launch right into implementation.”
The plan will live as a working guide to allow FLC to adapt within the areas of focus as faculty and staff chart a course to student success, fiscal sustainability, and academic excellence. The plan will inform the organization’s growth as a prevailing academic institution and will also guide reflection of FLC’s liberal arts origins and culturally significant history.
The plan was developed through multiple input sessions led by appointed faculty. Throughout the discussions Team Leads discovered the key factors that distinguish FLC and are most important to staff, faculty, students, and community members. These concepts included the cultural and natural diversity of the region, and the college’s high-caliber faculty and rigorous degree options, commitment to access and affordability, experiential learning, and diversity in students and staff.
Taken together, these concepts chart an ambitious agenda for how FLC will serve students and the community. The strategic plan presents an opportunity for the entire FLC community to engage with the institution’s future and serve as a national example of collegiate distinction.
“We are not operating at our highest potential but there’s no reason we can’t be there in the next few years,” says Stritikus. “The plan is the first step forward and I am more than encouraged by what we’ve accomplished thus far.”
