The best of the best on display at FLC Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities Symposium

Have you ever wondered about the representation of Indigenous peoples in interactive media? Or an ecofeminist critique of the Mad Max franchise? And what about quantifying collisional energies within an ion trap mass spectrometer?

The Fort Lewis College (FLC) Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities Symposium is FLC’s premiere showcase of student research and scholarship. The symposium will be held on Thursday, April 19. Everyone is invited to attend this free event. Presentations will cover a wide range of topics, from biology, chemistry and engineering to music, art and theatre.

The participating students will discuss their work during presentations held in both the Student Union Ballroom and Vallecito Room. The presentations will run from 9 a.m. to noon and from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the Vallecito Room and 10 a.m. to noon and 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. in the Ballroom. At 12:45 p.m., a poster presentation is scheduled for the Student Life Center. This is an opportunity to talk with the students one-on-one about their work. The symposium wraps up with a closing gala that begins at 4:15 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.

Research and scholarship is an integral part of a FLC education. Undergraduate students can conduct their own research with expert professors acting as their mentors, something that is more likely to happen only at the graduate level at other institutions.

This advantage for FLC students was dramatically strengthened with the completion of Sitter Family Hall. The hall houses research labs and equipment that is rarely found outside of much larger universities.
