Alumnus Patrick Succo (Chemistry and Biology, '13), a veterinary student at Colorado State University, is part of a veterinary outreach program to teach essential animal care to high schoolers in the Navajo Nation.

FLC will be offering a Computer Engineering degree beginning Fall 2017, once approval is granted by the Colorado Commission of Higher Education.

Alumna Dabney Meachum (Political Science, '16) and senior Psychology major MeKayla Smith were featured in an article on the effectiveness of Black Student Unions in Your Black Education.

Alumnus Schuyler van Englenberg (Chemistry, '05), assistant professor of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Denver, was just named to the prestigious 2016 Class of Boettcher Investigators in the Webb-Waring Biomedical Awards. He will receive a $235,000 grant to support up to three years of biomedical research.

Durango and Fort Lewis College will honor the remarkable life of Marine Captain Jeff Kuss (Economics, ’06) on Saturday, June 11.

Liz Ross, director of the Small Business Development Center, and Larie Clown, a senior English major, were added to the Board of Directors for American Indian Business Leaders.

Capt. Kuss graduated from Fort Lewis College in 2006 with a degree in economics.

Captain Jeff Kuss (Economics, '06) of the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, performed a flyover with the Blue Angels before the start of Super Bowl 50. We are saddened to report that Captain Kuss died following a training accident on June 2.​

Three students and the assistants presented their thespian talents at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Hawaii in February. Junior Theatre major Jaclyn Drummond earned a a spot to display her skills at the Kennedy Center in Washington D. C. in April. 

Ross McCauley, Associate Professor of Biology, earned a Fulbright award for the 2016-17 academic year. He will use the grant to study in Ecuador. 

Justin McBrayer, Associate Professor of Philosophy, earned a Fulbright award for the 2016-17 academic year. He will use the grant to study in Austria. 

Nancy Cardona, Associate Professor of English, earned a Fulbright award for the 2016-17 academic year. She will use the grant to study in Norway. 

Three years ago, Simon Walls’ Marketing Research students conducted a study with the Durango Chamber of Commerce. The results revealed that local professionals desired more education about how to utilize digital marketing to advance their businesses.

Hundreds of current students, alumni, faculty, and staff competed in the 2016 Iron Horse Bicycle Classic on May 28-29. Senior Exercise Science major Payson McElveen scored first in the road race and third in the mountain bike race; sophomore Economics major Cormac McGeough topped the podium in the circuit race and took second in the overall road Omnium.

Student athletes recorded their highest collective grade point average in the past 10 years: The 14 varsity programs and club cycling earned a combined grade point average of 3.05, .02 points higher than last year.
