Mary Shepherd, Director, Small Business Development Center, received $2,500 from the United Way of Southwest Colorado for the City of Durango Community Support Funding Grant.    

Beth LaShell, Director, The Old Fort at Hesperus, received $86,661 from the Colorado Department of Agriculture to “Support New High Elevation Specialty Crop Growers”.

Benjamin Waddel, Ph.D., Professor, Sociology and Human Services, received $999,897 from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the “Rural Utilities Service’s (“RUS”) Distance Learning and Telemedicine Loan and Grant Program.”   

Joslynn Lee, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Chemistry, received $14,884 from the University of Alaska Anchorage, for the “Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) flexible LCC2 Community funds.”

Kaitlin Mattos, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Environment and Sustainability, received $250,000 from the Walton Family Foundation for the “Tribal Water Media Fellowship Program to diversify the voices and professionals that communicate to the public about water issues.”

Yiyan Li, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Physics & Engineering, received $75,000 from the US Environmental Protection Agency for “An Open-Source Droplet Digital PCR (ddPCR) System for the Rapid and Accurate Detection of Bacteria from Environmental Water Samples project.”

Mary Shepherd, Director, Small Business Development Center received $100,000 from the US Small Business Administration through the Colorado Department of Economic Development and International Trade (COEDIT) to fund SBDC activities in 2024.

The Fort Lewis College Board of Trustees recently announced the composition of a 15-member Presidential Search Committee.

The Colorado Sun highlights Team USA Olympic mountain biker Savilia Blunk (ATT '18-21) among the Durango-trained cyclists who are competing in the Olympics in France this year. Blunk said that riding for the FLC Cycling Team and training in Durango fired her passion for the bike, improved her riding skills, and shaped her career trajectory.   

The Partnership for Education and Advancement of Quantum and nano-Science (PEAQS), led by Jeff Jessing and a team of FLC faculty and staff, is one of 11 collaborative research groups nationwide to receive six more years of funding from the National Science Foundation. The team will receive $4.2 million over that period. (NSF).

Fort Lewis College will play a leading role in the workforce development programming for Elevate Quantum Tech Hub, which secured $127 million in federal and state funding to develop workforce and technologies for the rapidly growing quantum industry in Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming.

The new Educator on the Water program provides teachers with an immersive, hands-on learning experience in nature, equipping them with innovative teaching tools to use in their classrooms —and outside of it.
