Department of Physics & Engineering

Our goal is to provide quality engineering and physics programs within the context of a liberal arts education. We prepare our students for successful careers as engineers, scientists, and technologists as is evidenced by the career and graduate school placement of recent graduates. Graduates of our programs have the skills, training, and flexibility to adapt to tomorrow's demands for modern, interdisciplinary careers in a rapidly changing technological society.

Accreditation

The Fort Lewis College Engineering Physics program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202-4012 - telephone: (410) 347-7700. This assures students that the degreed program meets the accepted national standards for a quality engineering education. This is the only accredited engineering program in western Colorado and the Four Corners region.

Engineers Without Borders

Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is a program that gives students the opportunity to work on engineering related projects in the developing world. Students study, organize, design, and assist in the construction of projects that improve the quality of life in poor communities around the world.

FLC Observatory

The Department runs an observatory for student observational astronomy/astrophysics research, has space grant programs to develop balloon/rocket payloads, NASA internships, senior seminar/design and other meaningful undergraduate research opportunities.

Our Faculty

The faculty of the department of Physics and Engineering span an impressive range of disciplines and interests from civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering to optics, astrophysics and cosmology, from atmospheric physics and hydrology to alternative energy and sustainable engineering technologies.

Three ways we are unique compared to similar programs at other colleges:

  1. Small class size
  2. Access to professors for individual help and excellent mentoring.
  3. Undergraduate research and engineering design opportunities in worthwhile and diverse areas.
