AUDIO TRANSCRIPT:
During my senior year of high school, I applied for schools and got invited to tour the FLC campus. This was the Easter weekend of my senior year in high school, and I got to have a tour with my brother and cousin, which allowed me to figure out how this campus works and the school's culture. That weekend, two people were tabling for the Newman Club, which is the Catholic club and campus. Those two people were names Daniel and Kara, and I got to know them very well during my time at FLC. I knew this campus was the right one for me from the second I stepped foot on it, and while I had some moments through my career here at FLC where I thought that this might not be the place for me, I ended up sticking it out for all four years, and that was a great decision. I am now finishing up my degree in accounting.
My favorite memory from campus was watching the Newman Club grow from just two people. During Covid-19, it was Daniel and I managing the club. We went from him and me in the club to over eight students my senior year, which was awesome growth. This stood out because seeing a club that I cared so much about being so small was difficult. Watching the growth of people starting to care about that organization and people showing up at McPherson Chapel was heartwarming. It made me realize how important the hard times are. You just can’t fully appreciate the good times without the hard ones. While it sucks, going through the hard times is when we grow the most. I wouldn’t be able to fully appreciate how much the Newman Club has grown without starting with just Daniel and I.
