Empowered Through Insight
FLC’s Peer Consultation Program is an innovative collaboration between Student Wellness Initiatives, Student Housing, and the Psychology Department. It is a wonderful opportunity for FLC students who may benefit from self-reflection on personal choices and behaviors with guidance from a highly skilled peer consultant.
Peer Consultants are trained in a student-centered counseling strategy called Motivational Interviewing. Peer consultation sessions are confidential and designed to assist you in reflecting on your alcohol, tobacco or other drug use, as well as regarding other behaviors. Peer consultants strive to facilitate conversations that are empathetic and focused on meeting you where you are.
The sessions are brief (plan for 45 minutes) and many students who have participated in our program leave with newfound personal insight and strategies to lower the risk of harmful consequences related to alcohol and/or marijuana use, as well as other behaviors.
