In 2016-17, 129 students received Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Grants, and 88 students received Student Travel Grants. A total of $125,294 was awarded.
Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities proposals are each evaluated by three faculty members. Students majoring in the Natural and Behavioral Sciences (Adventure Ed, Anthropology, Athletic Training, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Exercise Science, Geosciences, Math, Psychology, Physics, Public Health) had their proposals reviewed by at least two faculty from the natural and behavioral sciences; students majoring in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (Art, English, GWS, History, Modern Languages, Music, NAIS, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, Theatre) had their proposals reviewed by at least two faculty from those disciplines.
In fall of 2016, there were 35 proposals for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Grants, totaling $68,823 in funding requested. Because many proposals came from groups, a total of 85 students were involved in the research proposals. Due to over $20,000 supplemental funding provided through the Expanding STEM Opportunities Title III grant, we were able to fund the vast majority of projects. In the fall of 2016, a total of $60,050 in support was granted to 30 projects that included 74 students.
In spring of 2017, there were 25 proposals for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Grants, totaling $38,009 in funding requested. A total of 37 students were involved in the research proposals. Due to supplemental funding provided through the Expanding STEM Opportunities Title III grant, we were again able to fund the vast majority of projects. In the spring of 2017, a total of $31,464 in support was granted to 21 projects that included 37 students.
In addition, travel grants (totaling $33,781 to 88 students) were awarded to students presenting research at professional conferences and performing at theatre and music festivals.
